Suffering with a herniated disc is one of the most painful things you can have. It will affect every move you make, keep you up all night and even cause pain with the simplest things we do such as cough or sneeze. I know because I see patients daily with this type of spinal damage. But there is hope!!!
Here a few things you can do for yourself to help ease the pain.
1) Try icing the injured area. Ice is a great tool for the disc patient because it helps to decrease swelling. Once the disc herniates there is quite a bit of swelling deep in the tissues and ice is the safest way to bring it down. Use it for 15 to 20 minutes per hour and repeat every hour as needed.
2) Biofreeze!!!!!! Biofreeeze is an herbal topical pain reliever that does a great job of easing the aches and pains of a herniated disc. All of my patients receive free samples to try it and most end up buying tube because it works so well. The coast is only about $11.00. Next to ice this the best thing out there in my opinion and it works better than any medication.
3) Keep moving. The old remedy for this condition was bed rest. Bed rest is the worst thing you can do to help heal an injured spine. Now you are not ready for the Olympics but get up walk around try to keep your spine moving and as flexible as possible.
4) Avoid heavy lifting!!!! This is the one thing you MUST DO to avoid re injuring the disc and making it worse. Also this is not the time to join a gym,or clean the closets after 10 years of not doing so. Your body needs to time to rest and heal and once your back to your old self than take on these objectives.
In my practice I see disc patients all day long. I have great tool called decompression that is very successful in helping relieve the pain of a herniated disc.
